About

Ellen has always been curious about the beautiful but really challenging world we live in. Her primary love is her family. She also loves to write, teach, dance, swim, take walks, and spend time with friends.              

Her books include: 

  • Food Stars—15 Women Stirring Up the Food Industry (publication date: October 2022) 
  • Gandhi For Kids—His Life and Ideas (2016), 
  • Nellie Bly and Investigative Journalism for Kids (2015), 

She is the co-author of:

  • Earthrise—My Adventures as an Apollo 14 Astronaut (2014), written with Astronaut Edgar Mitchell.

Ellen holds a Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Human Development from Syracuse University.

She is an affiliate faculty professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Production (JMP) at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Ellen also taught reporting through the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado, Boulder—and a writing course through CU’s Continuing Education program.

Ellen worked as a staff writer/Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company. She has produced many radio pieces for KGNU Community Radio in Boulder, KRCC Radio (Southern Colorado’s NPR Station), and for the BBC “Science in Action” series. She has published articles for YES! Magazine, the Daily Camera, Boulder Weekly, the Longmont Times-Call, the Longmont Ledger, and the Boulder Magazine.
