Ellen Mahoney is a writer and educator. She is the author of Gandhi for Kids: His Life and Ideas (published in 2016), and Nellie Bly and Investigative Journalism for Kids (published in 2015). She is also the co-author of Earthrise: My Adventures as an Apollo 14 Astronaut, penned by Edgar Mitchell, and published in 2014. All three books were published by Chicago Review Press.

Ellen worked as a staff writer/Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company at the start of her career. As a freelance writer she has published articles in a number of magazines including: The Western Pennsylvania History Magazine, Hinduism Today, Light of Consciousness Magazine, Pennsylvania Magazine, Edible Front Range magazine and YES! Magazine online. She’s also published newspaper articles for the Daily Camera, Boulder Weekly, Longmont Times Call, and the Longmont Ledger.

Ellen holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Human Development from Syracuse University, and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California. She is an affiliate faculty professor in the Department of Journalism & Technical Communication at Metropolitan State University of Denver where she currently teaches two courses: the “Workshop in Radio Production,” and “Writing for Broadcast Journalism.” Ellen taught “Reporting 2” as an adjunct in the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder in Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.

Ellen has also produced radio pieces for the BBC “Science in Action” show, the KGNU Community Radio “Eat Your Radio” series, and the KRCC Radio Colorado College “Mise en Place” series.
